Our client is one of the largest brokerage firms in China. The company offers securities brokerage and underwriting, asset management, and online trading services. It also assists its clients in establishing securities investment funds and funds management companies.
Background
We were introduced to the Client by our office in China and the excellent relationship NYIF began with them through inquiries about our services. As a premier securities firm, the Client recognized the need for on-going investment in their people with technical skills training. They also realized that it was crucial to train their key senior people who came from a variety of different departments within the firm, each specialists in his/ her own right. The most important requirement the client had for NYIF was that the training be practical. They wanted the staff to return to China with practical skills that would immediately show an impact on their daily work as well as an impact on the firm's ROI.
NYIF 3-step process
Step 1: Needs Assessment
The Client asked us to develop a curriculum after having spent time with our staff and faculty understanding our capabilities and those of our parent company, Pearson. We developed a curriculum based on job descriptions, level of participant and the desire for practical information. We designed learning objectives for each of the ten courses they would be taking and included case studies and exercises. The agenda also included field trips to the New York Stock Exchange, and face to face meetings with Pearson guest speakers from the FT, Wharton School Publishing and FTSE as well as a personal visit from Pearson's CEO, Marjorie Scardino. Breakfast and lunch were provided each day to encourage group discussion and debate. Each participant received market updates via a daily copy of the Financial Times.
Step 2: Program Design and Delivery
NYIF provided courses in capital markets, derivatives, M & A, fixed income, portfolio management, technical analysis, hedge funds and alternative investments, foreign exchange, risk management and structured products and economic indicators. All case studies were global in nature and provided the students with practical applications and time was built into the program for discussion and debate.
Step 3: Evaluation and Results
The program was a success. The participants thought the instructors were excellent and felt very comfortable asking questions. On most days, the instructor and other NYIF staff members joined the group for lunch. The after class events were a success and the speaker series and trip to the Stock Exchange were most memorable. The participants left with new knowledge about the topic and its application in a global environment. The feedback was very positive and we look forward to their return next year.
"Thank you very much for all the arrangement of our training in NYIF. Thank you for your hospitality and for your taking such great pains to train us. Please also forward our thanks to all the instructors. We'll never forget our experiences in NYIF and USA."
