How Successful Have Your Global Learning Initiatives Been?

Our client is a leading financial technology specialist providing automated, integrated middle- and back-office services to the financial services industry.

Background
Our relationship with the Client started with a call to our Business Development Manager. The HR Manager was looking for a global training solution that provided a cost-efficient solution to their globally dispersed staff. In addition to getting the curriculum right, NYIF had to ensure that we could reach participants outside the United States. The objectives of the training program were to improve the staff's analytical capabilities and help them substantiate their valuations in addition to covering some concepts, theories and real world applications. The training had to have an immediate impact on their work. The participants are highly skilled in their fields and many had advanced degrees. The Client wanted to:

NYIF 3-step process

Step 1: Needs Assessment

The Client asked us to develop a curriculum after having spent time with our staff and faculty understanding our capabilities, and those of our parent company, Pearson. We worked on the curriculum based on the job descriptions, level of participant and the desire for practical information. We developed learning objectives for the courses they would be taking and included case studies and exercises. We also had discussions with the business stakeholders and they in turn discussed their goals and objectives with us and the selected Faculty pool. They also wanted pre- and post- testing. The most important requirement was that we be able to deliver globally via our 'virtual class'. Our virtual platform allows us to broadcast the live NYC classroom session to students located overseas or in the next city. Participants are able to watch and listen to the instructor live, view powerpoint slides as the instructor advances them and ask questions via a chat function which the instructor responds to verbally.

Step 2: Program Design and Delivery
NYIF provided pre- and post-tests. In addition, NYIF supplemented the classroom instruction with renowned Wharton School Publishers' authors through a series of 'lunch and learns'. The participants were given the books as pre-reading and had a chance to listen to and ask questions of the authors. Pre-reading, in the form of selected articles, was also assigned. All of the courses delivered were at an advanced level and the instructors used the results of the pre-tests to modify/enhance their content.

Step 3: Evaluation and Results
The program was a success. The HR Director received feedback from the business stakeholders as well as the participants and the results were positive. The 'lunch and learn' series were well received and the Client is considering a half day follow-up panel session to summarize the training. The virtual component was gratefully received as the overseas participants had the ability to hear the instructor live, pose questions and listen to comments and questions posed by their counterparts in New York. In addition, all sessions were taped with links sent to various global Department Heads to share the information.

"The course and delivery of the options course were excellent. The instructor did a good job blending fundamentals, theory and market practices. He touched briefly on the challenges and approaches to assessing valuation reasonability. I would like to see more time devoted to that subject in subsequent sessions".
